Can You Work In Business With A Doctorate Degree In Industrial/organizational Psychology?

Just wondering if a doctorate is considered to be overqualified in the business world and managing director positions, and mostly geared towards consulting work and academia.

  1. I am planning on studying I/O Psych as well and I was under the impression that the higher the degree you get in the field the more options you have open to you if you choose to go into consulting. This is particularly true if you are thinking about at some point starting your own consulting business and lending out your services independently. I do not know about academia, that would depend on the institution you wish to teach at. If you go for some community college and they can’t afford to pay you your worth, then yeah, it may be a hinderance to you, and possibly with general managerial positions as well. But I don’t think anyone would advise you NOT to get one because you would be limiting your options should an opportunity arise in which having a doctorate could be the determining factor in your getting a great position or not. Psychology in general is a very broad field and yes, I/O Psych degrees at any level as extremely beneficial in the business world.

Don’t put it on your application / resume. They won’t know or ask if it’s not on there
